Discovering Hidden Gems in Mexico and the Caribbean
My girlfriend and I had been planning our perfect trip for weeks and of course Mexico had to be one of our destinations. A cruise ship made the most sense for us because we didn’t have a lot of time, so we decided to go on the Harmony of the Seas.
We wanted to visit some of the most beautiful and historic sites in the country, eager to experience the culture and scenery that comes with it. After doing some research, we decided to visit Chacchoben and the Bacalar Lagoon in one day.
We were so excited for our adventure!
We are so glad that we booked with Next Experience Travel. They arranged the whole trip and included transportation to all the sites.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first to take an outside tour from the shore excursions offered by the cruise, but after reading all the good reviews and fair prices, we decided to go with a local company.
I am happy to tell you, we didn´t regret it.
When we left the cruise, we just arrived at the meeting point, and from then on we just enjoyed!
The morning of our trip, we set off to explore the ruins of Chacchoben. This ancient Mayan site dates back to 100 BC and is home to many fascinating ruins including temples, palaces, and other structures.
We were mesmerized by the beautiful stone structures that have withstood the test of time.
We had the opportunity to explore the site with a knowledgeable guide who taught us about the history and culture of the area. We learned about the various Mayan gods and goddesses, and the rituals and ceremonies that were performed at the site.
We were also able to take a tour of the various structures, including the impressive Temple of the Sun.
This destination is ideal for photographers seeking a remarkable photo shoot. The combination of the sun, ruins, and lush jungle will give you an unforgettable experience.
After exploring the ruins, we headed to the beautiful Bacalar Lagoon. The lagoon is known for its stunning turquoise blue water, surrounded by never-ending vegetation.
We took the kayak that was included and went exploring. Here the guide takes you to the best spots he knows so you get the most impressive trip.
The crystal-clear water is something you only find at the Caribbean; we couldn’t stop admiring the breathtaking views. We also stopped at some of the nearby coves, where we had the opportunity to swim in this warm and beautiful water.
While exploring the lagoon, we also had the chance to see some of the local wildlife, including turtles, and a variety of fish. We even spotted a few manatees sunning themselves on the banks of the lagoon!
After this much activity, we were starving!
Thankfully, the tour included the fajitas meal, very Mexican and tasty with a stunning view of the lagoon as we ate. Don’t forget to ask which salsa is the spicy one, or you will regret it.
At the end of the day, we were exhausted but so happy with our adventure. We had the chance to explore some of the most beautiful and historical sites in Mexico and experience the local culture and wildlife.
We definitely recommend visiting Chacchoben and the Bacalar Lagoon if you’re looking for an unforgettable day of exploration and do not have a lot of time like us because of the cruise ship.
So if you’re looking for an exciting day in Mexico, make sure to add Chacchoben and the Bacalar Lagoon to your itinerary.
You won’t regret it!
Ahoy there, fellow cruise enthusiasts! As a guest onboard Royal Caribbean’s fantastic voyage departing from sunny Florida, I’ve got some incredible recommendations for you as we set sail to the captivating ports of Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Costa Maya. Prepare to embark on a journey that will leave you spellbound!
Our first port of call is Cozumel, a true slice of Mexican paradise. Here, the world is your oyster, quite literally. Dive into the crystal-clear waters for an unparalleled snorkeling or scuba diving experience, immersing yourself in the vibrant marine life. For history buffs, the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum beckon, offering a glimpse into the past. And let’s not forget about the delectable Mexican cuisine and margaritas that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you craving for more.
Next up, we have Grand Cayman—a tropical oasis that promises sun, sand, and unforgettable encounters. Seven Mile Beach is a must-visit for those seeking relaxation, while George Town offers a charming atmosphere to explore. However, the real magic happens at Stingray City, where you can get up close and personal with these gentle giants, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Now, let’s talk Costa Maya, where adventure and culture intertwine. While thrill-seekers will indeed find exhilarating zip-lining and ATV adventures, I’d like to suggest an alternative that offers a deeper connection with the local culture. Consider a visit to Bacalar, where the stunning Lake of Seven Colors awaits, inviting you to immerse yourself in its natural beauty. For a more intimate experience, opt for a Mayan family visit, where you can learn about their traditions and way of life. And, of course, exploring the awe-inspiring Chacchoben Mayan ruins is a must for history enthusiasts.
These three remarkable destinations—Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Costa Maya—are just a glimpse of the extraordinary experiences that await you on this Royal Caribbean cruise. Whether you’re drawn to underwater adventures, cultural immersion, or simply unwinding on pristine beaches, this itinerary has something for every kind of traveler.
So, as you pack your essentials, including sunscreen, flip-flops, and an adventurous spirit, get ready for the journey of a lifetime. Your Royal Caribbean adventure through Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Costa Maya is about to begin. Bon voyage!
